Word
Word
This was a technology that I found in the “RQ2 Technologies Table” and it is 10th on the list for the Microsoft section. Word is a technology that is used for creating ideas on printer size sheets of paper. One can write a story, essay, or anything that is on their mind in word. In a word document, one can create graphs, charts, and even tables. Users can also implement images and video links into Word as well. Word can be used for a variety of purposes. You can also share files with Word as well.
Here is a video on how to use Word. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-nHYzK-BVg
Ease of Use
Digital Unite (n.d.) stated that Word is one of the most easy word processing systems to use. It allows you to create many different documents. Word has a page that users can go to if they do not know how to do something. It is easily organized in a heading that is above the line spacing bar. Users can easily find the files, home, insert, draw, design, layout, references, and even a mailings tab. Each of these tabs are easy to toggle over and see what services Word has to offer within them. Like any new technology, there is a learning curve and that is no different for Word. It will take users a while to figure out all of the different perks of this service, but overall it is very easy to use.
Versatility
Word is very versatile. This is because there are many different functions that can be used within it. One can change the font, the size, and even the color of the text. There are also options to highlight, underline, italicize, and bold the text as well. Users can make bulleted or numbered lists on Word. There are also many different templates that can be inserted such as a cover page, resume, or even a coloring page. Pictures, videos, add-ons, screenshots, and Wikipedia articles can all be added into Word documents. It is neat because users can also use their mouse or their fingers to draw on a Word document by using markers, highlighters, and paint brushes. One can even change the design and layout of the page as well. There are many different features when it comes to using Word.
Likelihood of Using
I am very likely to use Word. This is because it is so versatile and I am very familiar with it. I would like to use it to write up lesson plans or newsletters for my class in the future.
Connections to Course
Microsoft Word connects to the “Seven Events of Instruction” through planning. This is because Word can be used to plan different lessons and activities for the kids. I have written a few lesson plans at Eastern so far and the template that I have used is through Word. I think it would be a great way to organize my ideas and write down the standards that I am trying to reach. I can also create lessons on Word and save them to my computer so I can go back and use them for the next year.
Microsoft Word also connects to the “TLC Framework of T1-Planning.” Again, this is because I can use it to outline and create my lessons. I can add in many different pictures, videos, and other activities into my lessons using Word that I would like to use. I could even plan some worksheets out on Word as well for the students. Overall, I can use Word to plan out my different lessons and have an idea as to what I will be teaching in the future.

Hi Haley,
ReplyDeleteThis is a very known technology as growing up you either use word or google docs. I can agree that this is such a useful tool in schools. I enjoyed reading the way you explained word as there was a few things I didn't know about it that you had mentioned. Especially since I haven't used this tool in such a long time so it was nice to get a refresher.
I can add two more usages of Word for teaching and/or learning, hoping other readers to your blog may find the comment useful as well. It depends on what function of its many functions you're talking about and what your rational or philosophy is. Briefly,
ReplyDelete1. Table of Content. I'd engage students in writing, either a long writing or an accumulation of writing of many days, and then ask them to insert a table of content at the beginning of the Word document. The rationale is that we normally feel proud to be an author and that the table of content, as any table of content of a published book, may bring us that sense of authorship.
2. Review and/or Track Changes. We can engage students in peer review activities. The rationale is of course related to Vygotsky's sociocultural theories of learning ...
