Interactive Whiteboard
Interactive Board
I found this technology in the RQ2 Technologies Hardware table of the PowerPoint. I chose this technology because we have been interacting with it in class. The interactive whiteboard is a tool that can be used in classrooms for teachers to enhance their lessons. They can create lessons on the whiteboard and include videos, games, pictures, and different technologies that will enhance students' understanding of a subject. The interactive whiteboard allows images from a computer screen to be shared on the large screen. The teachers and students are able to “interact” with their fingers or a pen on the board.

Ease of Use
The interactive white board is fairly easy to use. Platinum Copier Solutions (2017) stated that one of the perks of the interactive whiteboard is how easy it is to use. They explained that the interactive whiteboard is very clean and requires very little maintenance. Data is kept using a pen. (Platinum Copier Solutions, 2017). From my experience with the interactive whiteboard, I have found that it takes some time to figure out how to use it. At first, I didn't really understand the different functions that it had and I did not know how to effectively use them. I also had a hard time pulling up a lesson that I created on the computer on to the interactive white board. Some features of the whiteboard need to be explored before one can become efficient at using the whiteboard. In class, we were trying to figure out how to use a math add on. This add-on was supposed to allow the user to write two numbers on the top of the screen in boxes and the interactive white board was supposed to add or subtract the two numbers together to find the answer. We had a really tough time getting the interactive white board to complete this task. At the next class period, Dr. Wang came back and figured out how to successfully complete this activity. I think the interactive whiteboard is tough to use at first, but with time it becomes easier.
Versatility
The interactive whiteboard is very versatile. This is because there are many different features to the interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard has screen sharing. It also has many different tools to use when operating on the whiteboard setting. Some of these include different colored pens, activities to implement, game shows, pictures, videos, text boxes, shapes, and even graphs. The interactive whiteboard has it all when it comes to different tools to use. The interactive whiteboards are also mobile, and can be mounted onto a wall or a mobile stand (Promethean, 2022). Students are also able to collaborate on the interactive whiteboard using Lumio. The teacher creates a class that students join. After the students join, the teacher’s lesson is on the board and the students are able to interact with it from their mobile devices. The presentations can also be recorded for later times (Promethean, 2022).
Overall likelihood of using
I am very likely to use this technology in the classroom. This is because it is so versatile and it is very fun and engaging for kids. It will also help me in planning and executing my lessons
Connections to Course
This connects to the “Seven Events of Technology'' Framework through presenting the content and providing feedback. As stated before, the interactive whiteboard can be used for teachers to create lessons. They could solely teach a math lesson for the students on the interactive whiteboard. To paint a picture, a teacher may be teaching students subtraction. The teacher may have a student come up to the whiteboard to solve the problem of 6-2. They may be able to use manipulatives to assist them in solving the problem on the board. The teacher can also implement videos, text, and images into their lessons as well. The lessons are very interactive on the whiteboard. The whiteboard can provide feedback because the teacher may decide to implement a game at the end of the lesson. The game could be multiple subtraction problems that the students need to solve. The teacher will have the students pull out their mobile devices and join the lesson. The teacher will be able to see what subtraction problems the students are confident with and which ones they need more help with. This will help show where the students are at as well.
The interactive whiteboard connects to the “TLC” framework of “L - Learning through collaboration.” Quite a few of the activities on the interactive whiteboard are done collaboratively. The games and activities that the students play can be conducted in groups so the children will be able to work together. Since there is only one person that can be drawing on the board at a time, the students will need to think collaboratively and work together to decide what they write on the whiteboard if they are working in groups. As you can see, the interactive whiteboard is very collaborative.

Hi Haley!
ReplyDeleteI think the interactive whiteboard is a great tool to use in the classroom. As you stated, it is very versatile and can be used in many different ways. Interactive whiteboards help enhance collaboration as well as inviting interaction with the lesson. Students enjoy using this tool, especially if they are able to come up and write on it with one of the pens or even just their finger. Students are also able to interact with the learning material, making it fun and exciting for students, especially younger students.
