Microsoft Teams

 Microsoft Teams

I chose Microsoft Teams because it is something that I am not too familiar with and I believe it could be beneficial in the future. I found Microsoft Teams on the 2nd RQ2 Technologies table that is for Microsoft located in the "T3PP Technologies for Resource and Blogging PowerPoint."

Microsoft Teams is an app that is used for collaborative work. Microsoft (2022) stated that Microsoft Teams will help the team you are working with stay organized, informed, and connected. In Teams, you can chat with others in a group. One will also be able to create a calendar that syncs together (Microsoft, 2022). This makes it easier to connect with others.

If you follow the link, there is a very beneficial video that explains what Microsoft Teams is.

Ease of Use

Setting up teams is very easy. Teams has everything you need when it comes to messaging, file sharing, and conferencing (The Daily Egg, 2022). All of these technologies are located in a similar place on Teams, making navigation easy. There are also many different features when it comes to video chats that users can participate in. The Daily Egg (2022) mentioned that Teams have virtual backgrounds, whiteboarding, hand raising, and the ability to pin participants. This is also a feature that is simple to navigate. One of the most challenging components of video chatting technologies is inviting other members to join. It is tough to make sure everyone knows where to click to join the meeting. The Daily Egg (2022) said that Teams will remind external participants to join. There will be a reminder sent to an email address with an easy tab to follow. The only downside of Teams is it can be challenging to get used to at first. Teams are not the most organized and it may take participants a minute to locate something (The Daily Egg, 2022).

Versatility

According to Knowledge Wave (n.d.) Microsoft Teams is known as one of the more flexible and versatile programs. This is because of the number of programs that are built into Microsoft Teams. With Microsoft Teams, one can chat, email, use calendars, explore other Microsoft apps, have file storage, and include many members into their team. Microsoft Teams has many different purposes other than just video chatting. The amount of applications that Microsoft Teams has makes it very versatile.

Likelihood of Using

I am very likely to use Microsoft Teams in the classroom. This is because it is very versatile and it seems fairly easy to use. I would definitely use Microsoft Teams with my students for video chatting purposes. I think Microsoft Teams would be beneficial to use for a team of teachers as well. For example, if you are in a kindergarten teacher team, each of the kindergarten teachers can use Microsoft Teams for the calendar and messaging aspects.

Course Connections

This connects to “The 7 Events of Technology” because it can be used to present the content. Microsoft Teams can especially be used during a time like COVID. Teachers can connect and collaborate with their students on Microsoft Teams through class meetings. Students can write on whiteboards and share documents in these meetings as well. Teachers can use this time to present the content that they are wanting to teach the students in a collaborative way.

Teachers can also use the providing feedback stage of “The 7 Events of Technology.” This is because Microsoft Teams has a neat feature that allows educators to have built-in rubrics for each of the student’s assignments. This will allow teachers to give more meaningful feedback to the students. The students can see exactly what they missed on an assignment and what they need to improve on. The rubrics are also easily shareable with parents.

This connects to the TLC framework of "T1-Planning." This is because Microsoft Teams can be used to meet with other teachers or principals. Teachers can plan their meetings on Microsoft Teams and use the calendar that syncs between all participants. The kindergarten team can each plan the lessons they have discussed in the calendar so all of the teachers are on the same page. Teachers can even collaborate with each other on shared whiteboards. Overall, this is a great way for teachers to collaborate with each other and plan.

  1. Hi Haley,
I felt as if this technology is heard of a lot. I've actually never seen how it has been used but it was interesting to me how you you described it. I now have a better understanding how it is used and can even see myself using this at some point. I can agree on how this technology does look fairly easy to use.

  2. Hi Haley,
Teams is a new tool for me that I have never used or heard of! It sounds like this would have been helpful for me and other classmates during the covid year where all of the classes were online. I can imagine how some group assignments and projects would have been way easier and more organized. I agree that this would be very helpful for using with other teachers and faculty to have online meetings or work on something together.

  3. Hi Haley!

I remember during the pandemic when I would have kids coming to the Boys and Girls Club using Microsoft Teams. It was new to me and I never really new how it worked. It seemed that majority of teachers used Microsoft Teams to connect with their students rather than zoom. Students can as well connect with one another over Microsoft Teams while they're working on projects or PowerPoints. Teachers can as well connect with one another over Microsoft Teams to discuss lesson plans and more. The blog was super helpful about informing us what and how to use Microsoft Teams. there are many different ways you can use it as you stated. I do think that it is very versatile and useful as future teachers as it is easy to guide/use.
